Snowbird Boulders--North Side

The "Snowbird Boulders" on the north side of the canyon afford an excellent concentration of moderate, mid-range and harder problems on two large boulders nestled among the aspen trees. The rock is featured and has a nice texture that makes many of the problems somewhat less temperature dependent than lower areas in LCC. Both boulders also offer a nice mix of technical slabs, vertical to slightly overhanging faces and--a rarity for LCC--some quality steep roof climbing. Classics of the zone include Bucket Crack (V0), I am Sam (V5), Dick Van Dyke (V6), Ping (V7), Matt's Cave (V7/8) and Inception (V11).

Approach

To get to the Snowbird Boulders--North Side, drive past the White Pine Lake trailhead and head around a left leaning curve. Watch for a small roof-like boulder on the north side sticking out just above the road. Park so that your car is right across from this small boulder (there is no real pull out). From there, head up a brief steep section just off the road and just up canyon from the small roof-like boulder. The climber's trail leads directly to Boulder 1 (home of Matt's Cave) and then continues on to Boulder 2 (home of Ping). It takes less than 5 minutes to get to either boulder.
